The Ugly Duckling
This illustration was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's classic story "The Ugly Duckling." It depicts the Duckling's bad early experiences, when he was "was bitten and buffeted and made to look a fool by the hens and the ducks alike." This sets the Duckling's story in motion; he resolves to leave these hostile characters behind and go out into the world.
